We are excited to announce that our 2024 Stony Brook Athletics Classic will be held on Monday, July 22 at St. George’s Golf Club in Setauket, NY.  The day will feature an 18-hole round of golf, complimentary golfer gift, on course festivities, cigars, scotch tasting, live music, and new experiences! All gifts from the outing will benefit Seawolves United, the Deputy Chief Raymond M. Downey Scholarship and Charles Gordon Heuser Scholarship. 

This golf outing is designed to help raise scholarship dollars for Stony Brook University’s student-athletes and to cherish the memory of two very special people.

On September 11, 2001, FDNY Deputy Chief Raymond M. Downey, Commanding Officer of the Special Operations Command (SOC), died in the line of duty while helping others escape from the World Trade Center. To help celebrate his life, his son, Chuck Downey ‘88 (Stony Brook Hall of Fame Football Alum) and family created the Raymond M. Downey Scholarship Fund.

In December of 2000, seven-year-old Charles Gordon Heuser – a dear friend and fan of Stony Brook athletics – tragically lost his life in a skiing accident. To help celebrate his life, his parents, Denise Logan-Heuser ‘78 (Stony Brook Hall of Fame Swimmer & Diving Alum) and David Heuser started the Charles Gordon Heuser Scholarship in support of the Stony Brook Athletics Department.
