Description

When a crime occurs, many victims do not know their rights or what resources are available. MCVRC has been advocating and helping victims for 40 years. We help all victims regardless of income. This year, we celebrate 40 years of making a difference for victims.

When Stephanie Roper was abducted, tortured, raped, murdered, and mutilated, the Roper family suffered a tremendous loss and were thrown into a world where legal jargon and red tape dictated what they could and couldn’t do. Vince and Roberta turned their loss into action and began advocating and making changes for victims’ rights across the nation.  This year marks our 40th year--40 years since the murder of Stephanie Roper and 40 years of advocating for victims. Great advances have been made in these 40 years that have made enormous impacts on how victims are treated, and the rights afforded to them, which give us cause to celebrate.

Our anniversary celebration will occur on Saturday, October 15th in Annapolis. We will join hands with our biggest advocates, and organizations and partners that care about victims’ rights to celebrate the advances that have been made and to regain focus on the work that is yet to be done.  At the event, we will also be recognizing the lifetime achievement of advocacy done by Governor Larry Hogan during his career and tenure as governor of Maryland.
