Other Event Type for Homebound Meals ProgramAug 06, 2022 from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM
The Home Bound Meals Program of Hendersonville TN will have a motorcycle ride as a fundraiser for the program on Aug. 6, 2022. This is a annual event for the program. Last year we had 100 motorcycles in the ride totaling 130 riders. This year our goal is 200 motorcycles. Motorcycle riders will pay to participate in the ride that will leave from T.W. Hunter Middle School and ride thorugh scenic countryside for approximately 2 hours. Along the way there will be a rest break. The ride segment of the event will end at Hendersonville Church of Christ. At the church there will be a homecooked meal for the riders and door prizes. The rider participation fee covers the ride and the homecooked meal. The Home Bound Meals Program provides a hot nourishing meal to anyone age 60+ that is unable to prepare a healthy meal for themselves. We also serve those under 60 years of age that are suffering from longterm illness such as cancer and unable to prepare a meal for themselves. Most of our clients live alone. The meal is viewed by the program as an opportunity to gain access to the client and build a friendship with them. We deliver a meal to them 5 days a week 52 weeks a year. We are now serving 120 clients per day. During the time of delivering the meal it gives the volunteer an opportunity to visit with the client. Over time the client may confide in them concerns relating to health or environment that will give the volunteer the opportunity to act as a bridge between the client and extended faamily by passing along those concerns so they will be aware. Our goal is to provide the client with the opportuntiy and dignity to live in their own home where they want to be for as long as they want.
