Founded in 1994, the Volunteers of the Burbank Animal Shelter (VBAS) is made up of over 140 volunteers who work exclusively with the Burbank Animal Shelter.  The VBAS is focused on increasing positive outcomes at the shelter, increasing adoptions, and improving the quality of life of all animals at the shelter.

Volunteers care for the animals, fundraise, and operate many life-saving programs throughout the shelter.  Programs run by the VBAS include the Kitten Foster Program that saves over 250 kittens every year, a Medical Program that provides medicines, equipment and supplies that the city cannot fund, a Puppy Foster Program that cares for the tiniest of dogs, a Barn Cat Program that finds homes for feral and otherwise unadoptable cats, and a Happy Tails program that takes shelter dogs out hiking in local parks and canyons.  

The VBAS is a 501c3 non-profit organization entirely operated by volunteers and 100% funded by private donations.

On the weekend of September 16, 2023, the Volunteers of the Burbank Animal Shelter (VBAS) will hold its fourth annual Online Silent Auction Fundraiser:  AUCTION FOR ANIMALS 2023!
