Description

We support families that have survived domestic violence, specifically teens, but our event targets the whole family. We recognize survivors and their families financial needs during times like back to school, so we are rolling up our sleeves this September 9th, 2023, to host a 'Back to School Jam.'  We seek to provide a one-of-a-kind experience that fills the back-to-school needs of 200 teenagers and creates a memorable event that allows them also to create fun, new memories.

As we know, adolescent years are some of the most memorable, whether good or bad. Your support will help teens confidently walk into their school year while hacking into and activating their happiness! Please help to ensure we can impact 200 teens safely residing in our community, whether in shelters, foster homes, or newly relocated homes, to adjust to their new normal.

The journey of overcoming experiencing domestic violence is ongoing. Many survivors communicate ongoing frustrations due to the lack of resources, and many find themselves trying to "survive" big milestones such as returning to school for their teens, especially if extracurricular activities are embedded into the Back to school needs as well. While general back-to-school opportunities are helpful, they still need assistance with rising costs in our economy throughout the school year. How we have designed this outreach also includes a safety component that most shared public experiences do not consider, which can cause survivors to a) not attend and b) approach with caution to be sure they do not run into their offender while attending, let alone dodging videos/photos when they've fled a life of abuse. This event approach is strategic and intentional as we have designed it with them in mind, and there's something about knowing this was done "just for us" component.
