Description

The 2022 Johns Hopkins Camp Sunrise Gala will be held on September 17, 2022 at Turf Valley Resort in Ellicott City, MD. The scenic resort is home to a glorious ballroom that will ensure the evening is a memorable one.

Camp Sunrise is an extraordinary camp for children with, or who have survived, cancer. It is a week-long, cost-free sleep away summer camp held every August near Annapolis, MD. Camp Sunrise is organized and fully staffed by volunteers and includes round the clock medical care for children who are in treatment or have special medical needs.

The social interaction with other children who have been impacted by cancer allows each child an opportunity to bond over similar experiences. At its inception Camp Sunrise enrolled 6 campers. This year, Camp will include over 140 participants; and it’s still growing!

To raise the crucial funds necessary to ensure that this wonderful camping experience remains cost-free to families facing the many hidden costs of this devastating chronic illness, we are hosting the bi-annual Camp Sunrise Gala of Light on Saturday, September,17 2022 at the Turf Valley Resort in Ellicott City, Maryland. This fundraising Gala is the single largest fundraiser for Camp Sunrise, and its success relies on the fabulous items generous donors like you who contribute to the Live and Silent Auctions. With the help of donors like you we were able to raise $250,000 at our 2018 Gala and this year we aim to raise $275,000. I hope, very much, that you will consider donating a gift basket, merchandise item, gift certificate or service to make this the most successful Gala in the camp’s history.

The Camp Sunrise Gala promises a night of fun and will feature hors d'oeuvres, dinner, open bar, and silent and live auctions. Even better, attendees will have the opportunity to meet some of the brave and courageous children who have battled pediatric cancer.

We are thrilled to welcome WBAL’s Jason Newton as our 2022 Gala of Light Emcee! A proud Baltimore native, Jason joined WBAL-TV 11 News in 2013 as co-anchor of WBAL-TV 11 News Today and is host of the public affairs show "11 TV Hill". His news travels have taken him around the country covering stories of national interest, earning him an Emmy Award in 2017 and Associated Press award for "Outstanding In-Depth Reporting" in 2006. Jason has a degree in broadcast journalism from the Philip Merrill School of Journalism at the University of Maryland-College Park.

Your contribution will receive widespread recognition by over 350 guests at the Gala, and your support will be acknowledged on our website and in our Gala Program, highlighting your association with and generosity to Camp Sunrise.
