Description

We are raising funds through a silent auction to fund a Climate Resiliency project.  Our neighborhood in central Phoenix, AZ is considered "shade disadvantaged" by the city - not good in the hottest metro area in the US!  In addition, we suffer from major flooding in rain events.  We have worked with several City of Phoenix departments, including Street Transportation, Office of Heat Response and Mitigation, Environmental Services and the AZ State Fairgrounds (they own the empty lot in our neighborhood that will host the project) to design a rain garden demonstration parklet on an empty lot.  This project will illustrate how to turn nuisance stormwater into an asset to water more desert trees which will increase our shade canopy.  The project will be installed by neighbors during a hands-on educational workshop lead by the nonprofit, Watershed Management Group.  Additional education will be provided by Trees Matter, another local non-profit.  The parklet will function as a staging area for neighborhood events and gatherings.
