Hello!  Chicago's Japanese American Service Committee is hosting a fundraiser May 16th. Would you consider a donation to support the important work of this organization? (Tax ID 36-2181974, IL Tax ID E99783517) Below is more information about the organization and event.

JASC’s Cranes and Cocktails at Artifact Events, 4325 N. Ravenswood Ave., Chicago is expecting a crowd of 250+ guests including individual and family supporters, corporate sponsors and civic leaders from the Chicago area. All funds raised from the event will be used to support our social service programs, Legacy Center activities, and cultural programming.

Agency overview/mission: The Japanese American Service Committee was founded in 1946 to serve the needs of Japanese immigrants and their American-born children upon arriving in Chicago following their incarceration during World War II.

Today, JASC’s mission is to engage people of all ages to experience Japanese American history and culture and to improve their wellbeing through innovative, high quality programs and services tailored to the multicultural community.

JASC accomplishes this through the work of highly trained and enthusiastic staff and volunteers and proactive collaboration with other agencies and organizations.

We offer community service, cultural, and educational programs. Social service programs serving the health and wellbeing needs of aging adults are provided both at our building and in client's homes. Cultural and educational programs include perpetuating the cultural heritage of the Japanese American community in Chicago. We do this by maintaining an archive of Japanese American life in Chicago; observing and celebrating significant cultural and historical events; holding special activities for seniors, adults, youth, children, and families; teaching classes; and maintaining close ties with other Japanese American and Asian American organizations, including hosting many at our facility.

The Japanese American Service Committee was founded in 1946 to help resettle over 20,000 Japanese Americans after their incarceration during WWII. These newers to Chicago required assistance with housing, employment & building a new community. Over the years, our services evolved into helping aging adults from all backgrounds maintain their health and independence under the care of our trained staff. In addition to our social services, the JASC Legacy Center Archives & Library has grown to become one of the most extensive collections of materials chronicling the Japanese American experience. Combined with our Japanese cultural and educational programming, we serve as an important resource for those with an interest in Japanese culture and seeking to understand the role of Japanese American heritage within the greater American story.
