Each year, Fairview Place, a central city neighborhood in Phoenix, AZ, hosts two Neighborhood Cleanups - Fall and Spring.  These events bring neighbors together to address safety and blight issues by removing trash from alleys, painting over graffiti, chopping down weeds and other overgrown foliage, and assisting older or infirm residents with yard maintenance. Fairview Place has some of the longest alleys in Phoenix (1/4 mile long each) and they are prone to wildcat dumping, encampments and harbor overgrowth that has added to crimes of opportunity. 

Over the past couple of years, these events have taken on a "block party" feel.  Neighbors overwhelmingly turn out for this event and "Alley Beautification" is consistently our top neighbor concern on our annual surveys.  At the staging area, we provide coffee and donuts to get people going at 7 AM.  From 9-11 AM, we provide breakfast in a shaded area and encourage our seniors to come out to socialize.  There is a kids area for babies and toddlers with toys and coloring.  Neighbors who sign up at the staging area receive 4 tickets they can use to win door prizes at the event.  We also have sponsors who have provided volunteer appreciation gifts to participants.

We are looking for "door prizes" and/or volunteer appreciation gifts.  This event draws around 75 volunteers.
