Flashlight Egg Hunt to Benefit the Healing Patch Children's Grief Program
Other Event Type for UPMC/ Home Nursing Agency FoundationApr 05, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM
The Flashlight Egg Hunt welcomes participants 18 years of age and older to don a headlamp, grab a bag or strap on a backpack, and scurry to gather as many eggs as possible in the dark. Once the lights are turned back on, participants can crack open their eggs to find candy or slips of paper bearing a number that corresponds to a special prize. Donated items will be used as prizes. More desirable prizes drive attendance and event success, as people want a shot to win great items or experiences!
All proceeds from this event benefit the Healing Patch Children's Grief Program. This program offers free supportive services to grieving children and their families in West Central Pennsylvania. One in 12 children in Pennsylvania will experience the death of a parent or sibling by the time they reach age 18. Left unaddressed, childhood grief and trauma can lead to short- and long-term difficulties including poor academic performance, mental health issues, and early mortality.
The Healing Patch provides a safe and welcoming environment for family group sessions at centers in Altoona, PA, and Ebensburg, PA. In addition to family sessions, the Healing Patch offers in-school services, grief resources, and community education regarding death and grief. Providing a safe environment for sharing memories and experiences, the Healing Patch allows grieving children and families to discover that what they are going through is normal and that hope and healing are possible.
There is no cost to families or schools and there is no reimbursement for this peer support service and outreach, so the Healing Patch relies on individual and community donations, grants, and fundraising events through the Home Nursing Agency Foundation for sustained support.
