Description

The Flourish: 2023 Black Family Homeschool Conference will highlight academic offerings, extra-curricular activities, and family support services. This hybrid event hosted on the Whova app promises to be an amazing showcase of educational diversity. This conference aims to equip, energize, and encourage Black homeschooling families and highlight homeschooling as a pathway to educational freedom.

According to National Home Education Research Institute (NHERI), more than 3.7 million homeschooled students are in the United States. Georgia has the third largest homeschool population of 85,510. According to the 2019 Census, Black families were 3.3% of the homeschooling population, and by the fall of 2020, the population had increased to 16.1%. Now, Black families are the fastest-growing homeschool population in the United States. Thus, this homeschool community is "flourishing."

DeKalb Christian Home Educators dba Georgia Black Home Education Network (GBHEN) is a collaboration of nonprofit organizations with a mission to empower Black families to realize the educational possibilities of homeschooling.
GOALS:
*Ensure access, provide opportunities, and secure resources that empower Black families to realize the educational possibilities of home education.
*Establish a network of academic, administrative, and financial resources supporting homeschool support groups.
*Partner with families, group leaders, churches, academia, and communities to gather for mutual support and grow the homeschooling movement in Georgia.
