Wild About Reading

Harriet Bishop PTO 2021 Annual Read-A-Thon Fundraiser

The Harriet Bishop Parent Teacher Organization’s mission is to support and enhance the learning experience of all students at Harriet Bishop Elementary in the Burnsville/Eagan/Savage, Minnesota school district.

Harriet Bishop is a K-5 school set within a dynamic and innovative suburban public school district. The school’s mission is to provide a rigorous curriculum within a flexible environment for a diverse population of students, to develop the gifts and talents of each child.

The PTO raises funds and allocates them based on needs brought to our attention and/or specific funding requests. While every year is different, in the past the PTO has funded iPads, a playground ball wall, physical education equipment, art/music programs, field trips, and much more.

Our Read-A-Thon is our largest school-wide fundraiser for the year and encourages a lifelong love of reading.

Why are we having a Read-A-Thon?

The PTO funds programs that directly support each student. Money raised through the Read-A-Thon pays for things at school such as 5th Grade Biz Town experience, Ebenezer field trips, flexible classroom seating, RAZ-Kids reading app, Artist-in-Residence, indoor recess toys, Kindness Retreat, STEM tools, 5th grade send-off, and more! This is our biggest fundraising event.

How does it work?

Students collect pledges between April 5th and 23rd to support the Read-A-Thon. The Read-A-Thon (100 minutes of reading!) will take place at school (or via distance learning) on April 23rd.
