Hats, Horses and Hope is a Kentucky Derby themed fundraiser that benefits Neurofibromatosis Northeast.

Over the past 2 years, more than 200 people attended Hats, Horses & Hope and donated more than $35,000 that was put to use immediately to support patients and families with NF in the Northeast.  The party is held inside the rustic barn at Wright-Locke Farm in Winchester, MA. Guests fully embrace the spirit of the Derby by proudly wearing flamboyant hats and bowties, and competing for the title of best hat and best dressed.  We serve a fantastic barbecue buffet with cocktails including the statement Derby drink... the mint juleps.  Guests watch the Derby as it unfolds, bet on the horses, and enjoy a raffle and auction. With your help, we seek to raise $30,000 this year!

What is Neurofibromatosis (NF)? 

NF is a disorder that makes tumors grow uncontrollably throughout the body during a patient’s entire life.  It has a variable prognosis depending on the location, size and type of tumors that develop. Many people with NF struggle with disfigurement, pain, hearing loss, seizures, learning disabilities, social isolation, and poor motor control.  Although 1 in 3,000 people has NF, there is no cure and little treatment.  

Our 14 year old daughter has NF and many of the associated challenges – tumors in her brain and eye, poor muscle coordination, and social-emotional challenges. She understands the disease and the frightening possibilities it creates. Can you imagine hearing a child say she’s worried that her headache could be a malignant tumor? No child – and no family – should have to worry like that.  

What is Neurofibromatosis Northeast (NF Northeast)?

NF Northeast is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization, that funds scientific research, provides direct support to families, and lobbies for federal research funds. The organization serves families across Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island, Maine, Connecticut & New York.
