Description

Hastings Public Interest Law Foundation (HPILF) is a fundraising organization that works to provide funding for law students who pursue summer jobs and internships in public interest and social justice. The work performed can range from working at a Public Defender’s office to working at a legal aid organization. The central purpose is to support communities that lack access to legal resources and provide legal services to marginalized and vulnerable communities.

Unfortunately, most public interest jobs are unpaid. This means that many of our law student require funding to accept these unpaid jobs and internships. As such, HPILF provides grants for students to ensure law students are able to pursue this type of work. Last year, we were able to provide around 80 students with summer funding!

Our primary fundraiser is taking place on March 18, 2023. The proceeds obtained from selling tickets to our event and a silent auction will go towards funding the summer grants.  In order to raise as much money as possible for students pursuing public interest law, we are also reaching out to businesses that may be interested in generously donating an item or experience for our silent auction.

Our fundraising event will provide a venue for donors to connect with the UC Law SF community. All donors will also be published to provide you with access to the 20,000+ alumni of our school, which includes notable attorneys such as Vice President Kamala Harris, former mayor of San Francisco Willie Brown, and members of the California Supreme Court.

Gifts to HPILF made payable to the UC Hastings Foundation are tax-deductible under the Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3). Donations from generous businesses are the reason we are able to provide summer funding to students taking unpaid jobs in the public interest, public service, and social justice space.
