Description

Selwyn School is a prominent, independent, and non-sectarian day school serving students in pre-K through twelfth grade (ages 3-17). A member of the National Association of Independent Schools, Selwyn provides the most thoroughly individualized, comprehensive, and developmentally appropriate array of student-focused experiences in North Texas. Our students grow into independent thinkers and creative problem solvers who are highly resilient, emotionally intelligent leaders prepared for effective citizenship in a global society. Operating continuously since 1957, Selwyn has demonstrated its commitment to educating students from all backgrounds from across Denton County and greater North Texas for over 65 years. Selwyn’s mission is to cultivate global citizens who embrace complex challenges with empathetic and innovative thinking that advances the human condition.

Integral to Selwyn’s mission is the cultivation of global citizens. Part of accomplishing that mission involves exposing students to different cultures and ideas. Each year Selwyn School hosts its “International Night,” which is a culmination of students’ year-long research and fine arts projects showcasing their study of assigned countries. As Selwyn’s signature event each year, International Night is also an opportunity to demonstrate to the broader community the accomplishments of Selwyn students in the furtherance of our mission. To support this event and to support the operating needs of Selwyn School, we host a silent auction during the evening.

Net proceeds from Selwyn’s International Night support the school’s Annual Fund. The Annual Fund is an unrestricted operating fund that supports all aspects of the school’s functioning, including scholarships, classroom materials, and professional development. Our Annual Fund is integral to the school’s operation and helps keep the cost of attendance low; since tuition only covers a portion of the school’s entire operating costs, fundraising for the Annual Fund closes the gap and makes the school more affordable for a broad, diverse range of families.

For the 2023-2024 fiscal year ending in May 2024, Selwyn’s Annual Fund goal is $175,000. Thanks to the generosity of parents, faculty, board members, and alumni, Selwyn has raised over $100,000 of that goal to date. As part of our effort to reach our goal, we hope to raise $35,000 in additional donations at this year’s International Night. As such, Selwyn relies on the support of various organizations to help us reach that goal, especially by providing donations in-kind to make this year’s silent auction a success. We anticipate attendance of 350 people—250 of whom will be adults—to attend, and our online auction receives around 10,000 impressions each year. In appreciation of our corporate donors, all donors will receive prominent logo display at the event, on our auction website, and on Selwyn’s social media.

We thank you for your time and consideration of our fundraising goals. I appreciate your support. Thank you again.
