Description

On Wednesday May 10, 2023 we will be holding our inaugural Principal’s Tea where we launch the Parkwood Foundation’s newest award celebrating innovation, passion and potential in young women in the study of dynamic STEM education.  We will be awarding awards to 2 females with a passion in STEM from every Durham Region high school.  Two winners will also be selected by a panel committee to win scholarships.

Col. McLaughlin was an innovator and leader in supporting emerging technologies throughout his life.  Mrs. McLaughlin, a philanthropist in her own right, was a school teacher in Oshawa and had a passion for education and teaching.  This Progress Through Innovation Award looks to reward young women in Durham Region with similar forward-thinking qualities to encourage the development of tomorrow’s innovators and leaders in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

Events at Parkwood continue to support important conservation efforts. Like many charities and organizations, the past few years have been challenging and difficult ones.  Parkwood is a place where visitors can experience a glimpse into the past while enjoying our beautiful gardens or the immense history in the museum.

When you visit Parkwood you are stepping back in time, a chance to experience the home and legacy of the late R.S. McLaughlin, Canadian auto baron and founder of General Motors of Canada.  Inspired by early 20th century Beaux-Arts design, this 55 room mansion was built between 1915 and 1917.  The art, architecture, gardens, and original furnishings are all faithfully preserved in this National Historic Site.
