As an initiative to increase independent reading this year, our school joined the Beanstack initiative program. Students read to earn incentives and prizes. They can complete different challenges and just record daily reading to earn points toward incentives. Our latest challenge is a read-a-thon fundraiser where kids get sponsors to read.  We have a schoolwide goal for funds students will raise and the number of miniutes they will read.  Many students have gone above and beoyond to meet and exceed this goal. Many have picked up books again this year to compete in these challenges. 

We are hoping to acrue prizes such as Six Flags tickets or other donations to give as incentives for meeting and exceeding goals in reading.  The money we raise will be used to create a library in our small school and to purchase much needed literacy items for classrooms (not only reading classrooms, but all subjects as well to implement cross curricular reading).
