Sip & Scent: Self-Care Event for Educators
Other Event Type for Black Educators CollectiveFeb 03, 2023 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM
On February 3, 2023, Black Educators Collective will be hosting a Candle Making Workshop at a black-owned, woman-owned business, FSC Workshops. This event is part of our "Elevate Series" which is an initiative that comprises of events and charitable actions meant to uplift educators and our community. According to the District of Columbia State Board of Education, “the District’s average annual school-level teacher attritIon rate in both DC public schools (DCPS) & public charter schools is 25 percent—compared to a national average of 16 percent.” Teachers in the DC/Maryland area are burned out and leaving the profession. Self-care is essential for the well-being of educators, and this workshop would provide a valuable opportunity for black educators to take a break, relax, and focus on their mental health and emotional well-being. Furthermore, the workshop could be a powerful way to bring the community together, build relationships, and create a sense of belonging. Wegmans' donation would help to make this workshop a reality and show that they are invested in the success and well-being of black educators.
