For six youths in Shelter's Transitional Living Program, a visit to Six Flags Great America will not only be a new experience, it will be a rare opportunity to enjoy an adventure without the challenges and stress they routinely face aging out of the foster care system. The two-year residential program helps young people learn life skills no one shared with them while in foster care, and which are necessary to be successful, independent adults avoiding homelessness. A critical element on their journey is knowing they are worthy of their community's support, and a chance to have a carefree day of fun.
