Shelter’s mission is to end the cycle of child abuse by providing a comprehensive network of support to children, their families, and our community to create safe, healthy, and nurturing homes. We serve youths in need ages 0-24 in the Chicago metropolitan area who have experienced trauma. Since 1975, we have been the only agency in Illinois to provide fully comprehensive and community-based services for children and their families at risk. Shelter is committed to providing safe, inclusive, and supportive resources for those of all backgrounds and identities. Our programs include two Emergency Group Homes, three Foster Care programs, Youth Exeriencing Homelessness, Healthy Families abuse prevention, Transitional Living Program for those aging out of child welfare, and our free Clinical Program, all available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our vision is for all children to be raised in stable and loving homes.
