Each year Seagoville Public Library hosts a Summer Reading program for children of all ages. Each child that participates logs their minutes as they read. We provide prizes for every milestone that is achieved. The milestones are for 60 minutes, 120 minutes, 500 minutes, 1,440 minutes, 2,500minutes, 5,000 minutes, and 10,080 minutes which is 1 weeks worth of minutes! We also host an entertainer to educate and promote reading every Friday of each week of our reading program. The program starts June 5, 2023 and ends on July 31, 2023. We have four age groups: 3-5 years old, 6-8 years old, 9-12 years old, and teens. The top readers in each age group are given a big prize. This prize would hopefully be Six Flags Over Texas Arlington day passes. We had 55 participants last year and hoping to have more this year. Most of our patrons are hispanic. Many of our patrons may not be able to afford to have their parents purchase a ticket to be able to take them so ideally each child would need two tickets.
