Description

The Friends of the Library, a 501(c) non-profit, directly funds and works closely with the Marble Falls Public Library to strengthen education and reading access for children. This is especially true of the library’s Summer Reading Program. This nationwide annual event runs from June through August, and encourages children to read and maintain their literacy skills while schools are not in session, as well as inspires a lifelong love of books and learning. This program is open to children ages 0-18 in all of Burnet county and surrounding areas.

Donations increase the success and reach of this program. Donated passes and other items are used in the way the donor specifies (ie. for fundraising, prizes, etc). Fundraising covers costs such as entertainers and educators performing all-ages events that are free and open to the public, Summer Reading packets given to each child enrolled in the program, and reading incentives. Donated passes that may be used as prizes are compiled in a list. The more minutes read, the more points children earn. Kids then enter these points into drawings for the prizes of their choosing.

The library is grateful for any donations received. Donated tickets and passes are especially helpful if they cover a family of 4-6 people, with at least one adult ticket being offered. For instance, a day pass that covers 2 children and 2 adults, or 3 children and 1 adult makes a wonderful fundraising item or prize incentive. Donors are a large part of what makes the Summer Reading Program a huge success, and the Marble Falls Public Library includes donor logos in their newsletter, social media posts, digital displays, newspaper articles, and other materials, and thanks donors during Summer Reading Program events.

*** Please note that the Summer Reading Program will be advertised on the library's Facebook page, Instagram, website, and other publications closer to the summer. An event page will not be created until June approaches.
