Every summer we host a Summer Reading Program to encourage local children, ages birth -17 and their families to read and to enjoy the many benefits that the library offers over the course of the summer. We have reading activity logs they complete to be entered into a raffle for our grand prize, as well as multiple weekly story times, craft activities, guest presenters, STEM activities, and games families can participate in regularly. The library's Summer Reading Program offers extensive enrichment activities related to literature that are often unavailable in schools. In addition to encouraging a lifelong reading habit, studies show that reading throughout the summer helps children in this age group to retain skills learned during the school year. Our events draw families from Bexar and Guadaloupe counties and it is a great opportunity for publicity for your organization as well as a chance to give back to the community in a tangible way.
