The South Georgia Technical College Foundation is hosting its annual fund drive September 18 - 30, 2023 and a Silent Auction for faculty and staff on September 21, 2023.  All donated items will be part of a silent auction and open for other auctions electronically through December 31, 2023.  All funds raised during this event through June 30, 2024, will be matched dollar for dollar by federal, state, and local grants.  The SGTC Foundation is raising $250,000 to provide student scholarships and grants to academically deserving and financially disadvantaged students, and the purchase of textbooks to be used at no cost to students.  The funds will also be used to secure updated Diesel Technology equipment and expand and renovate the James S. Peters gymnasium to increase the lobby area, add multi-purpose classrooms as well as update technology throughout the building.  SGTC has been ranked as the top two-year community college in Georgia for the past four consecutive years.  It is a predominately black institution in a rural economically disadvantaged area of southwest Georgia.  The college averages around 2700 students each year and is one of only two technical colleges in Georgia with on-campus housing.  It specializes in workforce development education and offers students the "complete college experience" with nationally ranked academics, student activities, and intercollegiate athletics.
