Savannah Speech & Hearing Center has served our community since 1954 with a mission to provide access to comprehensive speech, hearing, language and other therapeutic services that empower and transform lives. In 2007, in response to a growing need in our community, we proudly launched Sound Start, anearly intervention auditory-verbal program for children who are deaf or hard of hearing. Each child in the program uses advanced auditory amplification devices, such as cochlear implants or hearing aids. Sound Start is a full-time, multi-year program that helps children maximize the use of this technology. Our primary focus is to help them develop independent communication through listening and speaking, while encouraging the healthy development of pre-academic, pre-literacy, and social skills. We also provide extensive family support, empowering parents to understand and meet their child’s needs as they grow. Enrollment in Sound Start has always been offered at no cost to families, thanks to our fundraising efforts. Through our dedication to early identification and intervention, we strive to make a lasting impact on children with hearing loss, giving them the tools they need to thrive in all aspects of life. Our fundraising event, the Hammond for Hope Benefit enables us to continue and to expand Sound Start.
