Angels for Change’s purpose is to ensure access to life-saving drugs. Its mission is to drive change, through advocacy and awareness, of the life-saving drug shortage crisis. It is run entirely by volunteers.
Two years ago its founder, Laura Bray, was faced with a drug shortage that threatened her daughter’s life. She was amazed at the lengths her Angels—her friends and family—would go to in order to help her daughter receive the medication she desperately needed. Once her daughter was helped through not just one but two drug shortage treatment crises, Laura knew she could not stop at celebrating her family’s miracle. She had to work to secure that miracle for others.
Determined that no patient in a life-threatening situation should ever have to hear, and no doctor should ever have to say, “we don’t have the life-saving medicine you need,” Laura gathered a group of dedicated volunteers and started Angels for Change.
Since its founding in October of 2019, Angels for Change has helped over 40 families navigate scarcity and shortage to get over 60 courses of life-saving medication their children need. They have also connected industry stakeholders, and as of last month, two drugs are now FDA-approved and available to help combat the shortage Laura’s daughter experienced. They have credited Angels for Change as a large part of that process.
Yet Angels for Change’s work on ending drug shortages has just begun. Eight out of ten drugs used in treating the most common childhood cancers have been temporarily unavailable in the last ten years.
