The Assistance League of Huntington Beach is a non-profit, all volunteer organization that has been serving the communities of Huntington Beach, Fountain Valley and Westminster in Southern California for over 70 years.  "Its mission is to transform the lives of children and adults in the community."  It does so in the following ways:

  1. Operation School Bell - Students (grade school through high school) who come from low income families or who are homeless are referred to us from local schools.  They and a parent or guardian meet us at the local Target, where they shop for school clothing, educational items and personal hygiene items.  These are paid for by our organization.
  2. Scholarships - We provide yearly scholarships to:
    1. Nursing students at our local community college
    2. Local Project Self Sufficiency college students who are single parents struggling to make expenses.
    3. Veterans  who are attending local community colleges or who are graduating from the Golden West Regional Criminal Justice Training Center.
    4. Huntington Beach Therapeutic Riding Center students who otherwise could not afford this program.
  3. Support for Seniors - We work with the case workers at the Huntington Beach Senior Center to provide grocery cards, transit vouchers and in-home safety bars, etc. to seniors who are at-riskk financially in order to help them maintain independent living.  We also support the Alzheimer's Family Center in Fountain Valley through purchases of therapeutic items such as medical gtrade recliners, recretional items, etc.

This past year, our 314 member volunteers worked over 27,400 hours.  Through their support for our thrift shop, fundraiser, grants and private donations, we were able to return over $333,600.00 to our communities.  This provided support for over 8,000 individuals.

This past year we received the Huntington Beach Chamber of Commerce Wave of Hope Award for the most community-involved non-profit organization.  (More can be found on our website, along with our most recent yearly report).
