The Bexar County Family Justice Center's Mission is to assist victims of domestic violence in their journey from survivor to thriver. The BCFJC is a multi-agency, multi-disciplinary, victim service center that brings together a team of professionals who work together in one place, under one roof, to provide coordinated services to victims of domestic violence and other forms of interpersonal violence (like sexual assault, trafficking, stalking, elder and child abuse). The core concept is to provide one place where victims can talk to an advocate, mental health provider, police officer, DA's Office Staff, plan for their safety, and receive assistance with matters like protective orders, and public benefits.

Domestic violence, which threatens the lives of vulnerable victims and the healthy development of thousands of families, continues to occur at an alarming rate. Each year, for the past 3 years, the number of individuals assisted at the Family Justice Center has continued to surpass the never-before-seen amount of 5,000. In fact, the total for the last 2 years has come close to exceeding 6,000. Of those served each year, more than 2,000 are identified as high-risk domestic violence victims, who are at great risk of being seriously injured or killed.

As frontline responders during the pandemic, the Family Justice Center’s staff and partners continued providing crucial crisis services. By creating a virtual service system, victims of domestic and family violence were able to access the Center’s services from anywhere. Now, our hybrid service system empowers survivors with the choice of accessing many services in-person or over the phone. Services available through the Center include crisis intervention, safety planning, protective orders, adult counseling, child therapy, food, and relocation assistance along with children’s needs like school supplies and Christmas presents. These comprehensive, wrap-around services assist victims and their children in navigating “the journey from survivor to thriver.”
