Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Family Alliance was founded by families of children with cancer FOR families of children with cancer. We provide emotional, educational, and practical support to families of children with cancer being treated at our three hospital partners in the Houston Medical Center - Texas Children's Hospital, MD Anderson Children's Cancer Hospital, and Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital.
Our programs and services for families of children with cancer are not limited to in-patient families, but extend beyond the hospital walls. Once you are a Candlelighters family, you stay a Candlelighters family, regardless of the patient's recovery status - we serve families with children on treatment, in maintenance, off treatment, long term survivors, and bereaved families. We also serve the WHOLE family, not just the patients.
Over the years, we have learned how critically valuable it is for our Parent Consultants (employees of Candlelighters who have all had their own child with cancer) to be able to provide emotional support and personally hand parents of children with cancer practical assistance such as a meal passes, parking assistance, and gas cards; as well as provide opportunities for families to make memories together outside the hospital walls. It is our greatest honor and privilege to bring this type of comfort to childhood cancer families when stress is so high and they feel so helpless.
