Catskill Mountain Shakespeare was born from a desire to combine vibrant performance with the gorgeous setting of the Catskills. We explore classic texts (and new work initiatives) and make them accessible, thought provoking, and entertaining for a modern audience.
Inspired by the majesty of the mountains, CMS aspires to create a theatrical experience for this growing and picturesque region while fostering diversity, inclusion and equity for all artists, creators and audience members.
Outdoor summer theatre is an inviting way for the local community, and anyone visiting the area, to enjoy live art together in a comfortable, natural setting.
CMS prides itself on its talent. Our cast is classically trained and our staff is deeply experienced. We have garnered wide support from patrons, business owners and investors. We perform at existing locations, currently the Emerson Resort and Spa, that provide infrastructure, accessibility and a beautiful landscape.
