The Cody Waters Foundation is a 501(c) (3) Non-Profit organization that raises money for children with cancer and other terminal illnesses. Cody was born and raised in Orange County, California. In March of 2008, when Cody was eight years old, he was diagnosed with a rare type of brain cancer. Over the next few months, Cody would undergo several surgeries to remove tumors. In July of 2008, Cody lost his ability to walk, due to the growth of a tumor in his spinal cord. He began receiving chemotherapy and radiation treatment and the treatment was unsuccessful and Cody lost his fight against cancer on March 14th, 2009. He was buried at Forest Lawn, Cypress on March 23rd, 2009. The idea for the foundation began while Cody received his treatments at CHOC (Children’s Hospital of Orange County). While he was a patient at CHOC, we realized that there are many children suffering from cancer and other terminal illnesses. Some of the patients at CHOC would have hospital stays of three to four weeks, while they received treatment. Cody wanted to purchase some video games and movies for the other kids on the cancer floor to use while they were receiving treatment. This was where the idea for “The Cody Waters Off-Road Ride to Survive” started. We decided to have an off-road ride from California City to the Jawbone Canyon Store. Our goal was to raise money to donate to CHOC, so they could purchase some video games for the kids there. The ride turned out to be very successful and we were able to raise enough money to make donations to several organizations (CHOC, Make- A- Wish, Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, The American Cancer Society and several families). We also decided to make the ride an annual event. Last year we had close to 400 riders. Because we are non-profit, we need your help to make the ride a success every year. We are asking for either monetary donations or items that can be raffled off at our annual event. Any donation you make is tax deductible and is most certainly going to a good cause.
