Family Respite Services (FRS) Windsor/Essex vision is a community where families are strong and ALL children belong. FRS works alongside 1200 families who are caring for a child (0-18 years of age) with a disability. FRS develops a flexible, individualized, family centred respite support plan so that parents receive a short break, while their children engage in meaningful activities in our community.
FRS Programs to respond to the urgent respite need in our community:
-Over 600 Direct Support Providers work with families in the home or in our community.
-FRS Staff at 7 community centres, so that children can register for recreation programs as well.
-Two Staffed Respite Homes where children stay for a period of time.
"Imagine being a parent coping with the stress of supporting a child who has significant challenges. The most important thing for families, is to feel that their child has friends, is cared for and is safe. Family Respite ensures that I get a shortbreak from caregiving to recharge my batteries and my son has access to a trained support provider to work on goals. Respite is a lifesaver for my family."
