Lathrop First Christian Church exists to show love to the local community. We are located in a small town of just 2,000 and we do not have a public library, which is a great detriment to our children.
To help fill some of those needs in the community missing because of that, we began something called, “Toddler-Time.” In partnership with Parents As Teachers, last year on a limited basis we had a "Toddler-Time" where children not yet in school could come and hear a story, sing some songs, have a snack, and do a craft. Last year our initial goal was to have about 6-8 kids per Toddler-Time. We averaged 20 and at times had as many as 27 kids.
We are expanding this school year (more than doubling the number of Toddler-Times for this upcoming school year) to have one each Wednesday at that school is in session. The parents have spoken, they want the program and we are going to provide it for them! Last year this took place in a local coffee shop. Due to the growth experienced it will be moved to our church. Because we will have more space, we will also be able to incorporate a game into our time as well.
We believe that a solid educational and developmental foundation is essential for children and this program helps with that. Our church also focuses on relationships, recognizing that a strong community is built on strong relationships.
