- Depict the history and value of Texas and its unique relationship with Fort Hood

Vision: The National Mounted Warrior Museum will provide a unique educational experience, preserving and interpreting the story of mounted units and Soldiers who have served at Fort Hood and worldwide, and the rich history, values, and heritage of Texas.

The National Mounted Warrior Museum

The museum will represent the history of mounted Soldiers – the ones that rode into battle on horseback, as well as the tankers and infantrymen, the artillerymen and aviators, the logisticians, engineers, military policemen, signalers, and intelligence Soldiers who fought alongside. This is the history of the mounted Soldiers’ combined team efforts, a force for freedom so many times in our nation’s history.

The main museum facility is proposed to be roughly 66,000 square feet and will include the following:
- 25,000 square feet of permanent interactive galleries and exhibits
- 5,000 square feet of temporary exhibit space
- Children’s discovery area
- Library and archives
- Classrooms
- Orientation theater
- Administrative spaces

In addition to the main building, the grounds will also have dedicated areas:
- Outdoor exhibit galleries featuring vintage and modern Army vehicles
- Outdoor children’s recreation area
- Memorials and monuments

Underscoring the planning process was the importance of building a world-class museum in the heart of Texas next to Fort Hood to honor our mounted Soldiers and to tell their untold story. It’s a story of loyalty, duty, respect, integrity, and courage. It’s a story that touches the heart of every American and must be told. The following outlines the campaign objectives that will make this possible:

The Visitor Experience

Visitors will experience a nationally recognized military museum in Central Texas that tells the untold stories of our Soldiers, our units, and our community. The museum will:

- tell the unique story of how our combined arms techniques, in innovative units with adaptable leaders and Soldiers, evolved from horse cavalry origins into the most technologically advanced and lethal combat force the world has ever known.
- be an important historical and educational resource for all American and international guests.
- be designed as an educational resource for all ages, in particular to include interactive lessons for school-aged children on the topics of history, social studies, science, technology and patriotism.
- be a positive, engaging, interactive family experience.
- be a major destination attraction in the Central Texas region.
- be a museum that honors all past and current mounted Soldiers and their storied units.
- incorporate the history, traditions and artifacts of III Corps, the 1st Cavalry Division, the 3rd Cavalry Regiment , the 2nd Armored Division, the 13th Corps Support Command, and many other units that serve or have served on Fort Hood.
- fill the void and become the only Army museum in the United States west of the Mississippi honoring the service of mounted warriors and units in this unique manner.
- provide, preserve, interpret and share the story of mounted units and Soldiers, many of whom have served at Fort Hood.
