The Nichi Bei Foundation is a nonprofit whose mission is keeping the community connected, informed, and empowered through the Nichi Bei News (newspaper), a news and culture Website (www.nichibei.org) and educational programs such as Films of Remembrance — a showcase of films related to the wartime incarceration of the Japanese American community during World War II — the Nikkei Angel Island Pilgrimage to the former Immigration Station, and the Northern California Soy and Tofu Festival, our signature fundraising event.

The mission of the Northern California Soy and Tofu Festival is to educate the public about the health benefits and various uses of soy and tofu. In adhering to these goals, the Northern California Soy and Tofu Festival — an annual fundraiser for the Nichi Bei Foundation — strives to be a vehicle for community-building and leadership development while adhering to the Foundation’s mission of keeping the community connected, informed and empowered.

This exciting culinary and cultural event showcases soy and tofu vendors, features live cooking demonstrations and musical performances, and provides an educational forum on the various uses/benefits of soy and tofu via cooking workshops.

Proceeds from the Festival help to publish the first nonprofit ethnic community newspaper of its kind in the country, the Nichi Bei News.
