Our Mission Statement is: "Odyssey inspires independent success through accelerated academics and expeditionary learning."
Odyssey Middle School is an independent, coeducational middle school that answers the need for innovative and challenging academics offered within a small, responsive environment. Teachers connect with each student as an individual to fully support their growth – academic and personal, as they forge their way through the critical middle school years. In addition to providing a challenging core curriculum in math, science, language arts, and social studies, Odyssey focuses on out-of-the classroom learning through its international expeditionary learning program. Each year our students embark on 6-7 expeditions, climbing Mt. Whitney and Mt. Alice on the Eastern slope of the Sierras, and living aboard an oceanic vessel for five days while exploring the Santa Barbara Channel and Channel Islands. Our 8th grade year culminates with a three week Capstone Expedition to Japan. During this expedition, students explore Japanese culture, hiking the ancient Nakasendo Trail and staying at family-run inns (Ryokan). Our students show tremendous academic and personal growth by taking part in these expeditions and exploring the world both within and beyond the traditional classroom
