The PTA of PS 116 is a non-profit 501(c)(3) that directly supports all of the amazing programs that our children get to experience each day.

Our school is unique because it is home to a large diverse population that seamlessly comes together to form the enthusiastic PS 116 community. Almost 40% of our student population is low-income. Most recently, we have seen a dramatic increase of children who live in local shelters and temporary housing, including asylum-seeking families, and this is pushing us further than ever before to make our school community stronger.

The PTA of PS 116 works hard each year to provide 100% of the funds for all of the “extras” not covered by the NYC Board of Ed. The PTA pays for specialty teachers (music, theater, and chess), school supplies, building improvements such as air conditioners, and no-cost community-building events such as art night and potluck dinners. In addition, funding is provided for teaching assistants in the lower grades and teacher professional development.  This year we have chosen to focus additional efforts on putting full-time teaching assistants in all lower grades (to help teachers with as many as 32 kids in a classroom) as well as continuing the following programs:

School-wide Visual Arts Program
Free Community-wide Events
Teaching Assistants
Professional Development
Chess Program
Smart Screens and Laptops
Emergency and Safety Supplies
School Maintenance
School Supplies
...AND MUCH MORE!!!
