Since the founding of the organization in 1967, the Rio Vista Elementary PTA has been committed to servmg our students and making an impact on their lives and families. This can be seen through the transformative work we do, the national grants we receive, and the awards we earn. One of them is the recent California PTA State Award for Family Engagement which featured Rio Vista's March 2023 AVID STEM Family Night. The Rio Vista Elementary PTA tackled historical educational inequities by not only providing access to STEM education to our underrepresented community, but also by advancing the development of scientifically literate children and families through innovative learning opportunities. While we have made some outstanding progress and still have work to do. The Rio Vista Elementary PTA is a volunteer-led child advocacy 50l(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to make every child's potential a reality by engaging and empowering them, along with their families and communities, through fun, challenging, and educational experiences. Rio Vista Elementary is a Title 1 school serving 715 students from K-5. The majority (87.7%) of students identify as Latino, nearly half (49.6%) are English Learners (EL), most (88%) are identified as socioeconomically disadvantaged, and 150+ students are McKinney-Vento, meaning they are homeless or lack a fixed, regular, or adequate nighttime residence.
