The mission of the organization states, "The Science Spectrum, seeks to futher public understanding of science, technology and industry in an enlightening and entertaining manner; to provide an opportunity for 'hands-on' learning experiences through action-oriented exhibits, to acquaint young people with careers in science, engineering, industry, medicine, and related fields; to improve the quality of life for citizens of all ages through a community-wide partnership that draws on the talents of individuals and organizations both private and public." The organization is also nationally recognized as being a part of the Association of Science-Technology Centers.  

With well over 250 hands-on interactive science exhibits, Lubbock's only public aquarium, the giant doomed screen OMNI Theater or the daily live science shows, it's the perfect place for the explorer in all of us.  In over 25 years the Science Spectrum has presented 44 traveling exhibits and has been a resource of science education to hundreds of thousands of people in Lubbock and the surrounding areas.  Its attendance includes predominantly regional families and school groups from more than 60 districts throughout West Texas and Eastern New Mexico.  The Science Spectrum offers a variety of science topics through permanent exhibits, including physics, perception, flight and space, weather, health science, sports science, architecture, and animal and marine biology.  The science outreach programs go to schools and youth organizations within 150 miles of Lubbock.

The Science Museum is a non-profit museum and theater dedicated to the pursuit of exploration and science education.
