Founded in 1948, the San Diego Chapter of the Sierra Club is the oldest and largest grassroots environmental organization in the San Diego region with over 14,000 members in San Diego and Imperial Counties.

Our mission “To explore, enjoy, and protect the wild places of the earth” inspires us to offer more than 300 outdoor activities annually from simple walks along the beach, bicycle rides, family oriented outings and bus trips to multi-day backpacking adventures.  For over 60 years, our Wilderness Basics Course has taught San Diegan’s to safely enjoy the wilderness while conveying a sense of responsibility for maintaining the purity and integrity of the wilderness environment.

Our Inspiring Connections Outdoors (ICO) is a nationally recognized community outreach program dedicated to helping urban youth discover the outdoors. ICO provides adult supervision, equipment, food and transportation for exploring local natural treasures, hosting camping trips in the surrounding mountains and desert, and distant adventures to places such as Joshua Tree National Park and Sedona, Arizona.
