Texas Adopt-A-Beach is an all-volunteer beach cleanup program dedicated to keeping Texas beaches clean, and educating our communities about the detrimental effects of marine debris on people and our environment. Established in 1986 by the Texas General Land Office and the Texas State Legislature, Adopt-A-Beach has mobilized thousands of volunteers to clean beaches at locations from Beaumont to Brownsville.

Through two large annual Coastwide Cleanups, and many other smaller ones, thousands of Texans show their dedication to keeping Texas beaches clean. For each cleanup, Adopt-A-Beach supplies the trash bags, gloves, and small appreciation gifts to the volunteers, who include people of all ages and demographic backgrounds. We then calculate the number of volunteers that come out to help, the miles of coastline that they clean, and the amount of trash they clear from the beach and report that information to the State Legislature as well as our partner, Ocean Conservancy.

Adopt-A-Beach also provides educational resources to teachers for use in classroms of all ages, and participates in public outreach activities.
