The Winnebago Area Literacy Council (WALC) strengthens our diverse community by developing and delivering free learner-centered literacy programs for adults and their families.
Who We Are
Winnebago Area Literacy Council is a nonprofit organization in existence since 1989. We are supported by United Way, grants, fundraisers, and personal donations.
Who We Serve
We serve adults who vary in age, background, culture, and country. The majority of our learners are immigrants and refugees who come to us to learn or strengthen English skills. We also work with community adults who are seeking to obtain their GED/HSED, improve reading and writing, or other basic literacy needs. Our main service areas include Oshkosh, Neenah, Menasha, and surrounding communities as needed.
Our Values
WALC is grounded in a value system in which we believe deeply and strive to uphold in every act and decision we make. An engaged, compassionate, and literate community is grounded in equality, mutual respect, and teamwork. We create opportunities for sustained independence by promoting self-worth and fostering family well-being through life-long learning.
