YVGMS is a 501c3 organization promoting the earth sciences and lapidary arts education to members and the public. We have classes and hands on sessions at our lapidary laboratory/shop, educational field trips throughout SoCal, monthly educational programs, and demonstrations and lectures with schools and other organizations. Our field trips draw members from all parts of the area and includes seniors and children.
Educational programs are held once per month in conjunction with our meeting. We have programs presented by members, faculty at local colleges, and other invited guests. We also will give presentations to local school and youth organizations on the earth sciences and geology.
Our filed trips go to selected sites in southern California and even in surounding states, to geologically interesting sites, historic and prehistoric sites and environmentally significant sites.
Our lapidary labratory/shop is in a rented building and is open 5 hours on 6 days per week. We conduct hands on classes in various aspects of lapidary, provide eauioment for use in developing those lapidary skills, and staff will try various new techniques to iprove the lapidary processes/techniques.
