The Animal Pad (TAP), which is run by just two paid staff members and over 300 dedicated volunteers, is one
of the leading dog rescues in Southern California. Since 2010, we have been rescuing dogs from both the
streets of Mexico and high-kill shelters throughout Southern California. We have a special place in our hearts
for the underdog; we are proud to be the rescue that doesn’t say no to a dog, despite any medical or
behavioral needs.
In 2019, we proudly rescued 360 dogs. By the end of 2020, our rescue had quadrupled in size in number of
dogs rescued, number of new fosters, number of dogs adopted, and number of new volunteers. One of the
most memorable aspects of the pandemic is the amount of people that turned to dogs to provide the comfort
needed to weather the uncertainty, pain, and chaos that the past few years has brought. TAP is a nonprofit
that is dog-focused, but while saving the lives of these dogs, it is clear we helped humans in the process.
