Empowered Parents in Community (EPiC) is a 501c3 non-profit that aims to cultivate parent leadership and improve family engagement to better support their students’ educational needs. We are a Black-led, community-rooted, decolonizing, collaborative, strength-based organization unapologetically focused on Black children and their success at school and in life.

EPiC creates a safe space to collectively disrupt, dismantle and rebuild a better system. EPiC is a well-respected, purposeful, Durham-based non-profit parent empowerment and advocacy organization. We provide resources and tools to help parents, educators and others create better schools. Our community forums with educators, parents and students bring those with lived experience in the education system together to find solutions.

EPiC is serious about making a difference. In just two years, we have expansive, diverse funding that has allowed us to hire skilled and passionate staff, including educators and parents. We have a committed network of active parent volunteers who are leading change at their schools. We are a trusted organization that increases Black parent leadership and is listened to by school system leaders. Three parents connected to EPiC have already run for their local school boards. EPiC is already expanding beyond Durham to share its approach in other districts.
