JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. T1D is an autoimmune disease in which your pancreas stops producing insulin, a hormone the body needs to get energy from food. People with T1D, must constantly monitor blood-sugar levels, inject or infuse insulin through a pump, and carefully balance these insulin doses with eating and activity 24/7/365. T1D has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle and can strike both children and adults suddenly. There is nothing you can do to prevent it and, at present, there is no cure.

Our mission is to improve lives today and tomorrow by accelerating life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent, and treat T1D and its complications. JDRF works every day to change the reality of this disease for millions of people and to prevent anyone else from ever knowing it by funding research, advocating for government support of research and new therapies, ensuring new therapies come to market and connecting and engaging the local T1D community.

The Upstate New York Chapter serves the entire state of New York except New York City, Long Island, and Westchester County.  The Upstate New York Chapter of JDRF has a yearly budget goal of $2.1 million in support of our mission.  In addition to funding important research worldwide, we are also committed to helping and supporting our local T1D community at all ages and all stages through a variety of free outreach events and resources.
