The Mission of PCS is to work as a community leader and partner in the Texas Panhandle to change the lives of low-income people by bridging the gap from poverty to self-sufficiency.
Our Vision is that low-income people have the power to live independently of government assistance.
Panhandle Community Services is a non-profit, community based organization offering a variety of programs and services to assist low-income individuals and families. We are the only Community Action Agency in the Texas Panhandle. Our programs and services are designed and implemented to target specific poverty-related issues with the goal of bridging the gap between poverty and self-sufficiency. As a whole, PCS provides a broad base of support for the residents of all twenty-six Panhandle counties.
Every 3 years we conduct a Community Needs Assessment by surveying clients, local business owners, as well as community partners, members and leaders across the Panhandle. The information that is gathered is used to determine if our current programs are still needed and what additional programs need to be provided. Our core programs are the Housing Choice Voucher Program (HUD) which provides rental assistance on a long-term basis, LIHEAP which provides assisstance with paying gas and electric bills as well as weatherizing homes so that they are more energy efficient, RSVP which coordinates volunteers and organizations needing volunteers and Family Development which is an intensive, longterm case management program that helps clients attain their goals in order to reach self-sufficiency.
