The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
At The Salvation Army Carr P. Collins Social Service Center, we serve over 6,000 individuals and families each year in one of our five residential programs. We have a Substance Abuse Recovery program for men and women, a Women’s and Children’s Homeless Shelter, a Men’s Homeless Shelter, a Veteran’s Homeless Shelter, and a Domestic Violence Shelter.
We also have a Home Sweet Home program which offers emergency assistance to individuals and families who are at risk of becoming homeless. We do this through Financial Education classes and support and through our Food Pantry and Clothing Warehouse. The people we serve come from all walks of life, and it takes an army of 145 employees to make this happen every day.
