The Navarro Education Foundation was established in 2005 to assist and support educational programs in the Navarro Independent School District. The Board of Directors represents a diverse combination of community members, former students, educators, business leaders, and parents. The objective of the NEF Board is simple: to raise funds through community activities and place those funds into the school district through a grant process. Teachers are encouraged to submit grant applications to enhance their classroom setting. Each year in the Fall, NISD Administration and NEF Board of Directors review each grant request to ensure that all applications are within the guidelines of NISD and NEF. It is a fantastic moment each year to notify recipients of funding approval. All funds raised by NEF go directly into the classrooms of NISD for educational purposes. The Board of Directors is made up solely of volunteers and has NO paid employees.
Since 2005, NEF has held several fundraising events, including Homecoming Tailgate Parties, brick drives, 5K runs, cookbook sales, and our annual Duck Fest. Due to the generous support of many, in the Fall of 2015 the Foundation surpassed $350,000 in grants awarded to NISD classrooms!!!
Through the years the list of grants has been very diverse, affecting literally every campus in the district. Some of the items funded by NEF include document camera/projectors; SmartBoards (interactive white boards); physics and science equipment; science labs; books for history, math, English and Spanish; musical instruments, practice tools, and music composition software; Mindstorm Legos for physics and Robotics Team; math and reading programs; laptops; iPads and iPods; a greenhouse for High School biology; teleprompter systems; equipment for video announcements; Holocaust speakers; art supplies; behavioral tools; Garden Club supplies; chess sets for the Chess Club; compound light microscopes; and many, many more.
